Dozens of movies have been made about the legendary Celtic sword “Excalibur” (Caledfwlch) who was offered to King Arthur by Marianne. Those movies have been transferred to 35 mm, DVD, VHS, DIVX, thousands and thousands of copies were made. You can find them in video rentals, supermarkets, along Peer-to-peer networks… Millions of souls have seen them but how many people have seen the sword?

Over the years so many people tried to make us believe that the value of a film was the number of people who saw it, the benefits it generated and the awards it had. Because cinema was not a craft but an industry. We were never told that our movies could be legends.

We could be adventurers, craftmen and kings at the same time.

Now dear readers, I would like to share with you one of my day dreams. I was a King of modern days. My kingdom was large and prosperous. I had made for my son, not the most beautiful sword but the most beautiful film. It was created to accompany him during life’s battles. When sadness would try to drown him into its darkness, the film would shine into him and light up the path to the shore. When ghosts of the past would come and try to enlarge his heart’s wounds, the film would be there to defeat this invisible army. It would act like a sword and a shield at the same time.

He would give the film to his son, who would give it to his son and the film would travel from generation to generation till it disappeared and became legend.

A movie can be a sword.

When I decided to have this movie created, I knew that it should be like a sword. A straight and double-edged movie which could cut at once the head of its owner’s doubts.

Long to be powerful but short enough to leave its owner with a necessary degree of freedom. The film should be light to allow speed and versatility of the owner spirit. It should be made of the finest material, for time to flow smooth over it.

When I opened my eyes, I realized two things:

Firstly that my film could be a sword for a king, that another one could be a beautiful dress, a shelter for the one spirit who suffers.

My film could be everything but a film.

Secondly, I realized that I could make a film for a single person, and a single person could watch it. It would not decrease its value, or alter its nature.

Excalibur was one and only one, owned by one and only one man.

My movie does not have to be seen by as many people as possible.

It does not have to make money or go to markets and get prices.

The reason is simple: because talking to one man or a million men is the same. Like the straw of grass contains the whole universe.

A single human being contains the whole humanity.

Before humanity was born, there was no word.
Things, beeings, were uncathegorized, everything was one.
But slowly, shouts, murmurs, complains became words.
Words became identities, carrying there own meaning,
like cells carry their own genetical informations.

Words were alive, words were dying.

None of those native words reached us. It is of course possible to find some traces of them. If we would have been archaeologists, we could have excavated some words, and maybe find the remnants of them. Fossilized words.

But recently, one of them arrived to us.

He was alive, with flesh and bones, with a voice, with a spirit.
He is alive with flesh, bones, voice, spirit.
The first word ever spoken that meant anything and everything
at the same time.

It is not Big Brother who is watching us but it is us who are watching Big Brother. We are watching movies, documentaries, shows, series. The more we cry, the more we laugh, the more we shout, the better. But when the film is finished and life takes its rights back, those emotions are gone from us, washed away, sucked out from our hearts, sacrificed.

Why? They were designed for life, to be useful, for us, for our people, for survival, just like our hands, our feet, our eyes.

Movies. Emotional vampires. Sucking our emotions and then vanishing into the night.

We, too, are making movies. Neither as entertainers nor as filmmakers but as conquerors. This involves as set of behaviours which defines a code we follow:

– A refusal to use emotions to manipulate the audience.

– A will and a necessity to conquer and occupy new territories

– A inability to compromise

– A need to recruit and train new fellows

– A necessary independence of our spirits.

Dear Reader, those words belongs to the dawn of conquest.

Those lines are the flags we carry on the path of discovery, on our journey towards the new territories situated in each human being.

We have already visited those lands using our movies like vessels to travel beyond instincts, feelings and intelligence. We first failed because our boats were too weak. Our people were hurt, some of them deserted us. But ultimately we managed to reach this dominion that men call spirit and poets call soul.

This is no safe travel of course, and does not give instant fame nor fortune. Moreover one never knows if the spirit of the spectator can be reached by the film because his instincts, his feelings or intelligence can stop the boat on his way and make the trip impossible. But when one of the vessels reach its final destination, the success is great. The spectator discovers in silence, in a half-dream state of mind a new and unspoiled part of himself.

This is the true power of cinema, its ability to teach us about ourselves.

Dear Readers, those territories are waiting for us, ready to be discovered. We are building a float of vessels, of every sizes, of every shapes. Training new fellows. We can feel the changing winds in our backs, we are gathering from all over the world. We teach are taught, the adventure continues.

This was a period of winter in a coming summer. This was one of these hard moments in life were you know you have to lock a door never to open it again. Brittany wonderful Brittany a passion of mine never really experienced in real life, would I be let down? In this dark period were I was inside my empty self something unexplainable started to fill we with my most cherished possession, creativity came in abondance. Me and Giil begun to work on his house, nurishing it to health and as we did so we became possessed by the power of creativity that we saw in the many worlds inside the house. What was happening had yet no name but this energy that would touch our hearths for ever would soon show itself to us. We had with us my camera and whenever we felt like shooting we did so, capturing like hunters without even wanting to hunt moments that were the result of this strange energy surounding us uniting our joy and fear into harmony. Then it came, the moment we knew deep inside that would arrive. It was the end of our time in Brittany and we were celebrating the anniversary of Mary the sister of Giil in the Ile grande, the night was enjoyable and we were all glad, we all had our hearts pure. Then the it decided to guide us out of the sumer house were we stayed to bring us in the darkness up to a sacred place upon a hill. There I was in perfect content and I closed my eyes. What I remember next was that Giil was doing strange noises waking me up. And then it introduced itself to us as I screamed out it’s name. Nagnú.
